Also in Diablo 4 the hunt for the items will play an important role. But there are some differences in the item system compared to Diablo 3. These have now been presented in a new quarterly update.

What changes? Diablo 4 should be between Diablo 2 and 3 in terms of the complexity of the item system. According to Blizzard, the items should strengthen the identity of the classes, but only support them and not define them.

In the course of the quarterly update, they explained where the similarities and differences lie compared to the other games. Most notably, legendary gear has been adjusted so that it no longer has static affixes, but random ones. In addition, the Unique Items return, which now take over the role of the legendary items from Diablo 3.

How gear works in Diablo 4

How do weapons work in Diablo 4? As is typical for the genre, each weapon should offer advantages and disadvantages in combat. One-handed weapons should generally hit faster, while two-handed weapons deal more damage:

Firing Frost Bolts with a wand will opinion them faster, but they deal less damage

Shooting Frost Bolts with a two-handed staff deals more damage but opinions them more slowly

What is Blizzard changing about item quality? While in Diablo 3 you only looked at yellow and later orange or green objects in the late game, in Diablo 4 objects of all rarities should still play a role in the endgame.

In higher levels, the rare and better items should therefore get more affixes. In addition, the total number of different affixes has been increased.

This should mean that they may be more interesting than legendary or unique items. Because there are changes here too.

Legendary items get random affixes

What is changing about Legendary Items? Legendary items are intended to function like rare items in the future, but have traded an affix for a special effect.

These affixes and effects roll randomly on each item. There are also special effects on Legendary Items that are only available to certain classes.

Unique items return in Diablo 4

The Diablo 2 Unique Items make a return in Diablo 4, replacing the Diablo 3 Mystic Items:

Unique items have fixed affixes that are unchangeable

They have a special, themed design

They offer class-specific effects

When you get an item like this, you sometimes have to build your playstyle around it.

When is there more to Diablo 4? 

In addition to the regular quarterly updates, there will also be new information about Diablo 4 at BlizzCon on February 19th and 20th.

It will probably be about a new class, as the quarterly update indicated. MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese, however, is hoping for a certain class that he believes is a must for Diablo 4.
